HONOLULU – Following a season-opening win at the Big Wave Invitational,
Emilie Kirk Langschwager earned Big West Female Athlete of the Week honors for the second time in her career Tuesday.
Kirk Langschwager got her sophomore season off to a winning start, running a 18:09.8 to lead the way for UH. She finished the 5k race nearly 19 seconds ahead of the runner-up to lead Hawai'i to a perfect score of 15 points, as the Rainbow Wahine took each of the top five spots in the season-opening race.
The native of Denmark holds the fourth-fastest 5k time in the Big West so far on the early season. Kirk Langschwager's time was also 42 seconds faster than her mark in the season-opening meet a year ago, when she posted an 18:51.10 on the undulating terrain at Kahuku Golf Course.
Kirk Langschwager is only the second Rainbow Wahine athlete ever to earn Big West Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors multiple times in a career. Camile Campos took home the conference's weekly honor one each in 2015 and 2016.
