Four Rainbow Wahine Sailors Earn Academic Accolades

The Intercollegiate Sailing Association announced its All-Academic Team for 2023-24 with four members of the University of Hawaii sailing team gaining distinction. Vivian Bonsager, Malia Johnson, Anna Kalabukhova and Mercy Tangredi were among the 290 sailors selected nationally for their accomplishments both on the water and in the classroom.

The ICSA All-Academic Sailing Team recognizes juniors and seniors who participated in seven regattas during the season and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

It was the second straight year that Tangredi, a physics major, earned the distinction. The two-time all-PCCSC skipper sailed in eight women's regattas this past season and helped the team advance to ICSA Women's Fleet National Championships for the third straight year.

Bonsager, Johnson and Kalabukhova all made the list for the first time and were also instrumental in UH's drive for a postseason bid. Bonsager, a global environmental science major, and Kalabukhova, who graduated this past spring with a degree in English, sailed together for much of the season with Bonsager at skipper and Kalabukhova at crew. Johnson, a communications major, joined the team this past spring and earned academic honors while competing in both coed and women's events at skipper and crew.
