Schager Selected As Nominee For Allstate AFCA Good Works Team

NORTHBROOK, Ill. – University of Hawai'i quarterback Brayden Schager is one of 178 nominees for the AFCA Good Works Team. The award is teaming with the Wuerffel Foundation and Allstate Wuerffel Trophy to honor a student-athlete who is inspired to serve others and make a positive impact on society.

Schager, a senior from Dallas, Texas, is entering his third season as the team's starting quarterback. As a middle schooler in his hometown of Highland Park, Texas, he and his younger sister founded the HP Buddy Bowl for athletes with physical and mental disabilities. The game debuted in 2017 and celebrated its seventh year in 2024 which includes members of the Highland Park High School football team, cheerleaders, and staff.

The Wuerffel Trophy is college football's premier award for community service and is presented annually to the FBS player who best combined exemplary community service with leadership and performance on and off the field. The recipient will be selected by a national voting committee and announced on The Home Depot/ESPN College Football Awards Show in December.

Established in 1992, the AFCA Good Works Team recognizes college football athletes for their unwavering commitment to community service and their "good works" off the field. The final roster of 23 award recipients will be announced in September, which includes 11 players from FBS.

In addition, Schager served as a camp counselor for the Manning Passing Academy camp this summer along with numerous other community service opportunities in the state of Hawai'i.
