Hardisty Presented Big West Service and Leadership Award

IRVINE, Calif. –  The Big West announced the 2023-24 recipients of its Service and Leadership Award with University of Hawai'i beach volleyball player Sabrina Hardisty among those being honored. A total of 11 honorees earned first-time recognition on the list with the winners spanning across five sponsored sports.

This is the seventh year the Big West has celebrated student-athletes for the Service and Leadership Award after first being presented during the 2017-18 academic year. The award winners are selected at the discretion of each member-institution with just one nominee per school. The criteria encompasses service, leadership and academics. Those recognized engage consistently in activities that have an impact on the campus, community or regional levels.

Hardisty has held numerous leadership positions throughout her time at UH. She was a member of Big West Undivided, a group charged with promoting the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the athletic departments of each member institution and was also involved in the University of Hawai'i Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Meanwhile, on the court Hardisty was named the team's Most Inspirational Player in her final season as a BeachBow in 2024.

Outside of athletics she was the cello section leader for the UH Symphony Orchestra and was heavily involved with the UH Immunology Laboratory and UH Cell and Molecular Biology. Hardisty also served as a tutor on campus for the UH's Academic Services and Learning Emporium. In the community, she gave her time coaching keiki at numerous clinics for UH and Spike and Serve.

Since first arriving on campus in 2019, the native of San Diego has earned two degrees. She gained her undergraduate degree in molecular bioscience & biotechnology (3.91 GPA) before graduating with a master's degree in public health (3.74 GPA) this past spring. She was named to the Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll (with highest honors) four times, was named a UH Exemplary Scholar-Athlete and was the beach volleyball team's top Scholar Athlete.

Hardisty joins Andre Ilagan (men's tennis, 2022-23) and Clare Marie Anderson (women's volleyball, 2017-18)  as past UH recipients of the Big West Service and Leadership Award.
