INDIANAPOLIS — Three University of Hawai'i swimmers will take to the pool to compete in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials starting this weekend at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Timothy Gallagher, who completed his UH career this spring, qualified for the trials in the men's 100- and 200-meter backstroke and rising senior
Dietrich Meyer is entered in the 50-meter freestyle. Senior
Kathryn Ivanov will represent the Rainbow Wahine in the women's 100-meter breaststroke.
Ivanov (100 breaststroke) and Gallagher (100-meter backstroke) are slated to compete on Sunday. Prelims are slated to start at 5 a.m. Hawai'i time and the top 16 advance to the event semifinals later in the day. The finals in both events are set for Monday.
Gallagher returns to the pool on Wednesday, June 19 for the 200-meter backstroke. The semifinals will be held in the evening session and the finals on Thursday.
Meyer caps the week for the 'Bows in the men's 50-meter freestyle. The prelims are set for Thursday morning followed by the semifinals with the final on Friday.
Qualifying heats will be streamed on Peacock, semifinals will be televised on USA Network and event finals will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock.
The trio helped UH sweep the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's and women's Swimming and Diving Championships in February and claimed all-conference honors in 12 events among them.
Ivanov holds dual citizenship and also competed in the Canada's Olympic trials in May and qualified for the A-Final of the 100-meter breaststroke, placing eighth with a time of 1:10.16.
Justin Lisoway, a senior this season with the Rainbow Warriors, also placed eighth in the men's 100-meter breaststroke (1:03.37)
Jordan Meacham competed in the Australian Trials on June 11 and placed 34
th in a field of 68 swimmers in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 23.15 seconds. Senior
Tomer Goldfaden also competed in the 100-meter breaststoke in the Israeli Olympic Trials, held June 5-8.
In April,
Karol Ostrowski placed fourth in the men's 50-meter freestyle (22.28 seconds) and eighth in the 100 free (49.77) at the Polish Nationals. Ostrowski and
Jakub Ksiazek won gold in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay and Ksiazek placed ninth in the 50-meter free. Rainbow Wahine sophomore
Zofia Tyminska won gold in the 200-meter individual medley (2:18.07) and silver in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:32.31).
