IRVINE, Calif.--The Big West Conference announced its all-conference awards for women's tennis on Thursday as voted by the league coaches. The University of Hawai'i had four Rainbow Wahine earn all-Big West honors.
Nikola Homolkova,
Nelly Knezkova and
Ana Vilcek all earned All-Big West second team honors in singles. In doubles, two of UH's duos,
Sheena Masuda/Knezkova and Homolkova/Vilcek both earned Honorable Mention awards.
Homolkova, a junior from Pelhrimov, Czech Republic, earned All-Big West honors for the third-straight season. In 2022 she was named to the All-Big West first team as a member of Long Beach State's team. Last year, she transferred to Hawai'i and was voted to the All-BW first team in 2023. This season, she earned a spot on the All-Big West second team after leading UH with a team-best 12-7 singles record all played on the No. 3 court. She finished the season strong, winning three of her last four matches, with her loss coming to Cal Poly in a super tiebreaker (8-10). She earned Big West Player of the Week honors (March 5) after winning three straight matches that week--including an upset win over 46th-ranked Gala Mesochoritou of No. 2 Michigan.
Knezkova, a true freshman from Prague, Czech Republic, posted an 11-8 overall record and was named Big West Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks (March 20 and 27) during which time she won four-straight matches, including an upset win over No. 10 California's 38th-ranked Hannah Viller Moeler in straight-sets. Knezkova started the season playing at No. 2, but finished at No. 1. She recorded a 6-4 record at No. 2 and a 5-4 mark at No. 1.
Vilcek, a junior from Pancevo, Serbia, earned All-Big West honors for the third straight season. In 2023 she garnered a spot on the first team and as a freshman in 2022, she was named as an Honorable Mention selection. This season, Vilceck recorded a 10-7 record and was named to the All-Big West second team. She started the first 11 matches at No. 1 before flipping with Knezkova to take over at No. 2. Vilcek finished the season strong, winning her last three-consecutive decisions.
As a doubles team, Homolkova and Vilcek earned Honorable Mention honors for the second-straight season. Together, they went 5-6 overall and 2-3 in conference. On the No. 1 court, they recorded a 3-4 record while going 2-2 on the No. 2 court.
Knezkova and Masuda also earned Honorable Mention doubles honors. For Masuda, it was her third Big West doubles honor after being named to the first team in 2023 and second team in 2022 at Long Beach State before transferring to UH. Together, the duo went 3-7 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
