Baseball Runs Nation’s Longest Win Streak to 10

HONOLULU – Randy Abshier delivered another gem on the mound and was backed up by some early offense to lead the Hawai'i baseball team to its 10th straight win with an 8-2 win over UC Riverside Friday at Les Murakami Stadium.

The Rainbow Warriors extended their nation-leading winning streak to 10 games while matching the longest winning streak by the program since 2021. It's only the second time since 2000 that a Hawai'i team has won at least 10 straight games and the sixth time since 1992 when the NCAA began limiting the amount of games teams play in a season.

Abshier turned in his second straight scoreless start, shutting out the Highlanders over 6.1 innings with five strikeouts and no walks while scattering four hits. The senior has now worked 13.1 consecutive scoreless frames and has recorded a quality start in each of his last three outings.

For the second straight night, Austin Machado put the Rainbow Warriors on the board in the first inning. After a hit by pitch and a double to lead off the game, Machado hit a sharp grounder back up the middle to make it 2-0 right off the bat.

The 'Bows added four more in the third to open up an early lead. Matthew Miura drove in the first two with a single through the drawn-in infield before Jared Quandt delivered a run-scoring double and Elijah Ickes came up with an RBI single to make it 6-0.

Kyson Donahue drove in his 100th career run with an RBI single in the sixth to make it 7-0 and UH added a single run in the eighth to go up 8-0. UCR broke up the shutout with two runs in the ninth to cap off the scoring.

Machado turned in his fifth three-hit game of the year going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and this third two-double game of the season. Ickes posted a multi-hit game for the fourth straight contest and is 9-for-15 with four runs scored and four RBIs during that stretch. Jordan Donahue posted his 20th multi-hit game of the year and went 2-for-3 while Miura drove in multiple runs for the 12th time this season.

The two teams will take Saturday off for UH graduation before wrapping up the series Sunday at 1:05 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium.
