SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (8-10, 5-2 Big West) fell at Cal Poly (8-7, 3-2 Big West), 5-2 on Sunday at the Mustang Tennis Complex. Cal Poly captured the doubles point then took a 3-0 lead before
Nelly Knezkova and
Ana Vilcek were able to record wins on the No. 1 and No.2 courts respectively.
The Mustangs came out strong taking the doubles point winning on the No. 3 court with Kennedy Buntrock and Eliza Bates defeating
Joelle Lanz and
Hannah Galindo, 6-1. On the No. 1 court, CP's Delanie and Peyton Dunkle held off UH's
Sheena Masuda and Knezkova by a break, 7-5 to take the 1-0 lead.
The Mustangs won on the No. 6 and 4 courts to extend their lead to 3-0. But Knezkova edged out Delanie Dunkle in the first set then cruised to win in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1. Cal Poly then clinched the match with Romane Mosses holding off Masuda at No. 5, 6-2, 6-4. Hawai'i's
Ana Vilcek closed the match by bouncing back after dropping Set 2 to fight her way back to to win in three, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.
The Rainbow Wahine return to host their Senior Day match against UC Riverside on Wednesday, April 10th at 2:30 p.m. HT at the UH Tennis Complex.
