Rainbow Wahine Sailors Second at PCCSC Regatta; Earn Bid To Nationals

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine sailing team finished second in both the team and fleet racing portions of PCCSC Women's Championship held this weekend in the waters off San Diego. With a top-two finish in the fleet racing, UH earned a berth in the 2024 ICSA Women's Nationals to be held in Boston in late May.

Stanford claimed the regatta title in both team and fleet racing. On Saturday, Stanford breezed by the competition going a perfect 9-0 in head-to-head racing. UH was second-best with a 5-4 mark on the day. The Cardinal claimed the conference's lone automatic berth to the ICSA Team Race Nationals.

On Sunday, Stanford claimed the fleet race with a low of17 points in a field of 10 schools. The Rainbow Wahine got off to a strong start and were actually tied with the Cardinal after the first rotation. UH ultimately finished 28 points, nearly a dozen points behind Stanford. But it was another strong showing for the Rainbow Wahine who were able to secure the conference's second auto bid to nationals. A total of 12 races – six in each the A and B divisions – were completed over the weekend.

Mercy Tangredi skippered the A division with crew Morgan Carew, while the B team was led by skipper Vivian Bonsager and crew Anna Kalabukhova. Also sailing during the weekend were Martha Schuessler and Malia Johnson who were part of the team race championship on Saturday.

The Rainbow Wahine earned their third straight spot in the fleet nationals and their 21st overall.
