LA JOLLA, Calif. – Behind another offensive onslaught, the Hawai'i baseball team finished off a road series sweep of UC San Diego Sunday with a 15-10 win.
A day after scoring 14 runs on 19 hits, the Rainbow Warriors pounded out 15 more base hits to score their 15 runs and finish with 33 runs on the weekend.
Kyson Donahue and
Sean Rimmer each homered while UH finished with six extra-base hits to improve to 6-0 all-time against UCSD at Triton Ballpark.
The sweep also marked the first time that Hawai'i has swept a three-game road series since taking all three against the Tritons in La Jolla in 2022.
The 'Bows (25-15, 9-9 Big West) scored four runs in the third and five in the fourth to open up a big early lead.
Jake Tsukada put UH on the board with a two-out RBI single in the third before Donahue belted his second homer of the weekend for a three-run shot to make it 4-0.
The Rainbow Warriors plated five runs in the fourth on just two hits with the help of five walks and a hit by pitch. Tsukada got the scoring started in the inning with a two-run single before
Austin Machado made it 7-0 with a sacrifice fly one batter later.
Dallas Duarte beat out a two-out bunt single to score Tsukada and make it 8-0 before
Naighel Ali'i Calderon was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to cap off the scoring in the frame.
Hawai'i added a run in the fifth and two each in the sixth and seventh to put the rout on.
Sean Rimmer blasted a line-drive, two-run homer to left in the sixth while Donahue drove in his fourth run of the day with a double in the seventh to highlight the scoring.
The Tritons (26-14, 13-8 Big West) battled back in the late innings, scoring one in the sixth, two in the seventh and three each in the eighth and ninth, taking advantage of seven walks and seven hit batters by Rainbow Warrior pitching.
Donahue and Tsukada led the charge offensively with each driving in four runs and scoring three. Donahue went 2-for-4 and finished the weekend hitting .333 with six runs scored, six RBIs and two homers while Tsukada ended the series going 7-for-15 with six RBIs and five runs scored, extending his hitting streak to seven games.
Duarte turned in a three-hit game, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a double and also went 7-for-15 on the weekend with five RBIs.
Matthew Miura, Rimmer and
Jordan Donahue each also turned in multi-hit games as eight of the nine starters got in the hit column while seven of the nine scored or drove in runs.
The Rainbow Warriors will return home to open a seven-game homestand starting Tuesday against Hawai'i Hilo at 6:35 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium.
