BeachBows Embark On FIrst Road Trip Of The Season

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. -- The No. 13 University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine beach volleyball team embarks on its first road trip of the season when it travels to Southenr California for a half dozen matches. UH will play four matches at the East Meets West Invitational,  March 15-16, in Manhattan Beach before visiting the campus of USC for matches against Concorida University Irvine and the top-ranked Women of Troy on March 19. 

The BeachBows (6-5) started the season with five losses to a bevy of top 10 teams in the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic only to respond last weekend with six straight wins to capture the Heineken Queen's Cup. UH will once again face a gauntlet of ranked teams this week, three of which are in the top 10. The 'Bows face No. 4 Florida State and No. 15 Georgia State on the opening day, before taking on No. 8 LSU and No. 6 Cal on day two of the East Meets West. Three days later UH will face a USC that is currently atop the AVCA poll.    

The Rainbow Wahine are led by the top pair of Alana Embry and Jaime Santer who went a perfect 6-0 during the Queen's Cup en route to Big West Pair of the Week honors. Live scoring will be available for the tournament on the schedule and results page at HawaiiAthletics.com.

All-Time Series Records: UH is 4-9 against Florida State...FSU has won the last four meetings, three of them coming in the East Meets West Invitational…UH and Georgia State will meet for the fourth-time…the first three meetings ever came just last year…UH won all three, including one in Manhattan Beach and two in Honolulu later in the season…UH is 4-3 against LSU…the teams will meet for the fifth time at the East Meets West with UH edging the Tigers, 3-2, in last year/s edition…UH is 5-2 all-time versus Cal…the 'Bows defeated the Golden Bears, 3-2, in last year's Queen's Cup finals in Honolulu...UH is 3-16 all-time against USC, including a 5-0 loss in Honolulu during the OUTRIGGER Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic earlier this season...this will be just UH's second visit to the USC campus and first since 2013....the 'Bows will meet Concordia University Irvine for the first time.
 
Versus Ranked Squads: UH is 97-86 (.530) all-time versus ranked squads, including 0-5 this season…all five losses came against Top 10 squads and UH will face three more this weekend…UH is 45-38 against ranked squads at a neutral site.  

'Bow Bits: UH has used a dozen different combinations through the first two tournaments of the year…the No. 1 pair of Jaime Santer-Alana Embry and the duo of Sydney Amiatu and Riley Wagoner, who have toggled between the No. 3 and 4 courts, are the only pairs to appear in all 11 matches together…the No. 2 pair of Kaylee Glagau and Julia Thelle are 6-1 this season and were unblemished (6-0) during the Queen's Cup…the freshman Thelle, redshirt freshman  Amiatu sophomore newcomer Julia Lawrenz and have seen significant time in their BeachBow debuts and have combined to go 16-11 overall, including 15-3 during the Queen's Cup.

Climbing the Charts: With her six wins this past weekend, Kaylee Glagau now has 87 career dual matches wins and moved into a tie for fifth all-time at UH with former partner Brooke Van Sickle…fellow senior Jaime Santer, who has notched seven wins thus far this year, now has 68 dual match wins for her career and is four wins from cracking the UH Top 10.
