BeachBows Pair Earns Big West Weekly Honors

IRVINE, Calif. – University of Hawai'i beach volleyball players Alana Embry and Jaime Santer were named the Big West Pairs Team of the Week after an unblemished weekend in the Heineken Queen's Cup. It's the first career weekly honor for the pair.

The senior Santer (Toronto, Canada) and sophomore Embry (Poway, Calif.) went a perfect 6-0 at the top of the order to help the Rainbow Wahine claim the Heineken Queen's Cup. For their efforts they were also named the tournament's Most Outstanding Pair. The duo picked up wins against pairs from Boise State, Nebraska, Pepperdine and Saint Mary's, with half of them coming in straight sets. The pair was particularly dominating on the tournament's final day when they picked up straight-set sweeps over Pepperdine (semifinals) and Boise State (finals) by an average of nearly seven points per set.

The 12th-ranked BeachBows (6-4), winners of six straight dual matches, now head to the mainland for their first road trip of the season. UH will compete against four nationally-ranked teams - Cal, Florida State, Georgia State, and  LSU - In the East Meets West Invitational, March 15-16, in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
