BeachBows Complete Pool Play In Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic

HONOLULU  – The  ninth-ranked University of Hawai'i beach volleyball finished up round-robin action in the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic with a pair of losses Friday at Queen's Beach. The Rainbow Wahine lost to No. 7 Stanford, 4-1, before falling to top-ranked USC, 5-0.

The day started with a competitive match between Stanford and UH. The Cardinal were fresh off a 3-2 upset over top-ranked USC on the opening day. But the BeachBows jumped out to a fast start, winning the first set on three of five courts. The Cardinal recovered and ended up winning two of those three courts in three sets to swing the match. One of those wins was at the No. 2 court where Taylor Wilson and Ruby Sorra spoiled the debut pairing of two-time All-American Kaylee Glagau and freshman Julia Thelle with a 18-21, 21-9, 15-6 decision. UH got its lone point at the top of the lineup where Jaime Santer and Alana Embry took down Brooke Rockwell and Xolani Hodel, 21-16, 14-21, 15-10.

In UH's second match of the day, the 'Bows were swept two-time defending NCAA champs USC. With multiple players sidelined, UH put out a re-tooled lineup which ultimately could not keep up with the Women of Troy. In just the second meeting in the last four years between the squads, the BeachBows fell in straight sets on all five courts. The closest match was on Court 4 where Madison White and Gabby Walker got by Anna Maidment and Sydney Miller, 21-18, 21-18.

UH (0-4) will now face UCLA (1-3) to open Saturday's championship bracket play on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.  The winner of that match will advance in the 10:15 a.m. semifinals to play Stanford, which went a perfect 4-0 during round-robin play. USC (3-1) and LMU (2-2) will face off in the other semifinal match and the tournament will conclude with the final at 12:45 p.m.
