Box Score VENTURA, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team notched its first sweep of the season defeating Ventura College, 7-0 on Wednesday at the Ventura College Tennis Center.
The Rainbow Warriors made quick work in doubles to start the match. UH's No. 2 duo of
Karl Collins and
Guillaume Tattevin blanked Ventura's Rafael Matias and Jullian Tellez, 6-0. Hawai'i's No. 1 pair of
Quinn Snyder and
Andy Hernandez then secured the doubles point with a 6-2 victory over Cody Ray Emery and Lucas Abreau. No. 3
Angus Hill and
Andrew Somerville then rounded out the doubles competition with a 6-3 win over VC's Thomas Lindner and Edgar Ploquin.
In singles, the Rainbow Warriors the first four matches in two sets. No. 4 Collins rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ventura's Tellez, 6-2, 6-0. No. 3 Tattevin followed with a 6-1, 6-3 straight-set win over VC's Abreau and for the second-straight match,
Blue Cockle clinched the match on the No. 6 court nearly shutting out Edgar Ploquin, 6-1, 6-1. UH's No. 5
Sohta Urano knocked off Robinson Pelluault, 6-2, 6-3. The final two matches went to three sets each. No. 2 Hernandez bounced back after dropping a second set tiebreaker to down Matias, 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3. And reigning Big West Men's Tennis Player of the Week closed the match defeating Cody Ray Emery, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Hawai'i will remain on the mainland and will make up their rained out match at Redlands at 7:00 a.m. HT at the Coach Jim Verdieck Tennes Center on Friday, Feb. 23.
