Rainbow Sailors Finish Competition In Northern California

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Both the coed and women's squads for University of Hawaii sailing were in action this weekend in the Bay Area in a pair of regattas hosted by Stanford. The coed squad finished third in the PCCSC Top Nine Open, while Rainbow Wahine were runner-up in the Bryson Women's Fleet Race. 

Wet conditions on Saturday, made way for a sunny and windy Sunday . A full slate of 36  races - 18 in each A and B divisions were completed over the weekend for the PCCSC Top 9. Host Stanford took home the regatta with a low of 127 points, easily distancing itself from second place UC Santa Barbara with 192 points. The Gauchos edged UH which finished with 199 points. Erik Anderson and Amanda Turner finished runner-up in the A division while Trey Summers, Stella Taherian, and Everett McAvoy competed in the B division.

In the women's regatta, UH finished in second out of seven schools competing with a total of 67 points. Host Stanford breezed to victory with a regatta-low 28 points, claiming first or second in 10 of 14 races. The Rainbow Wahine were represented by Vivian Bonsager and Malia Johnson who sailed in the A division and Mercy Tangredi and Morgan Carew in the B division. 

The UH coed team will be back on the waters the weekend of March 8 in Southern California when they defend its 2023 title in the  prestigious LA Harbor Cup. The Rainbow Wahine next head east for the South Florida Team race Feb. 24-25 in Saint Petersburg.
