Women's Tennis Opens 2025 Season Hosting Rainbow Wahine Spring Invitational

HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team opens its 2025 season hosting the high-powered Rainbow Wahine Spring Invitational from Friday, Jan. 3 - Sunday, Jan. 5 at the UH Tennis Complex. Joining the 'Bows to open their seasons in Honolulu are ninth-ranked UCLA and 10th-ranked California.

HAWAI'I RAINBOW WAHINE (0-0, Big West)University of Hawaii Logo• Last season, the Rainbow Wahine recorded a 9-12 overall record and a 6-3 record to finish the regular season in third place in the Big West. The 'Bows were upset by Cal State Fullerton in the BW Quarterfinals to end their season.
• This season, UH returns five letterwinners while welcoming in five newcomers--including two freshmen and three transfers
• Leading UH is senior transfer Peppi Ramstedt who enters the 2025 season with a team-best 7-3 singles record. Three fellow Rainbow Wahine enter the Spring with six wins apiece--freshman Makeilah Nepomuceno, junior Joelle Lanz and senior Sheena Masuda.
• In doubles, UH's Hannah Galindo and Nepomuceno posted a team-best five wins in the Fall, while veterans Ana Vilcek/Nikola Homolkova and Sheena Masuda/Ramstedt both follow with three wins each.

Team notes: The ninth-ranked Bruins begin their first season as members of the Big Ten Conference. 
• Last season, Bruins finished with a 21-6 overall record and went 9-1 in their final season in the PAC-12. UCLA fell in the NCAA quarterfinals to Tennessee.
• This season, three ranked singles players lead the Bruins into the Spring. Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer is the highest ranked Bruin at No. 38 with an 11-4 record. This past Fall, she advanced to the NCAA Singles Round of 32. Frehman Kate Fakih made an immediate impact, recording a team-best 12-5 singles record to earn a ranking at No. 41. Fakih made it all the way to the finals of the ITA Conference Masters Championships where she fell to teammate Lukemayer. No. 53 Elise Wagle is a senior who enters the season with a 5-5 record. She fell in the NCAA First Round in November.
• Three doubles teams are ranked in the ITA Top 40--with two pairs in the Top 6. The Bruin duo of Olivia Center and Fakih starts the year ranked No. 4 with UCLA's Kimmi Hance and Wagle beginning at No. 6. Ahmani Guichard and Lutkemeyer open at No. 36.

Streak: California has won all nine meetings
Team Notes: The 10th-ranked Golden Bears enter their first season as a member of the ACC. Last year Cal finished with a 20-7 overall record while going 8-2 in their final season in the PAC-12. Cal fell in the NCAA Super Regionals to No. 7 Georgia.
• Four Golden Bears begin the season ranked in the ITA's Top 100 in singles. Senior Katja Wiersholm begins the year ranked at No. 35 after advancing to the NCAA Singles Championship's Round of 16. Wiesrholm carries a 5-2 record to start the Spring season. Senior Lan Mi is ranked No. 63 to start 2025 and has a 7-4 record after advancing to the NCAA Round of 32. Junior Mao Mushika is ranked at No. 71 with an 8-4 record. She also fell in the NCAA Round of 32. Senior Berta Passola Folch comes into the season ranked at No. 81 with a 6-4 record.
• In doubles, two Cal pairs start the season ranked in the Top 50. Jessica Alsola and Mushika are ranked No. 24 and have a 3-2 record, while Mi and Passola are ranked at No. 48.
