IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team was picked third in the preseason Big West coaches' poll. In addition, Rainbow Warrior setter Tread Rosenthal was named to the nine-member preseason team.
 
UH received 18 total points and trailed preseason favorite Long Beach State (24 points, 4 first-place votes) and UC Irvine (21 points, 2 first-place votes). UC Santa Barbara (12) was third followed by CSUN (8) and UC San Diego (7).
 
The No. 3 preseason ranking was the lowest for the Rainbow Warriors since the Big West added the sport in 2018. Hawai'i returns three starters from last year's squad which finished with a 23-7 overall record and No. 5 final national ranking.
 
Also named to the preseason coaches' team were Gest Bianchi (UCSB), Anthony Cherfan (UCSD), Donovan Constable (CSUN), Maxim Grigoriev (UCI), Hilir Henno (UCI), Moni Nikolov (LBSU), Sotiris Siapanis (LBSU), and Skylar Varga (LBSU).
 
The Rainbow Warriors finished third in the final Big West standings last year with a 5-5 league mark, their lowest finish in six full seasons in the conference. Rosenthal was named the Big West's Freshman of the Year and was named an honorable mention AVCA All-American.
