Men’s Volleyball Sweeps UCSD to Move Within One Win of Big West Title

LA JOLLA, Calif. — The second-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team extended its road dominance on Friday night, sweeping No. 13 UC San Diego in straight sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-21) at LionTree Arena. The victory keeps the Rainbow Warriors undefeated in conference play and moves them within one win of clinching at least a share of the Big West regular-season title.

The win improved Hawai'i to 24-3 overall and 7-0 in the Big West, while extending their road winning streak to 10 matches—tied for the third-longest such streak in program history.

Louis Sakanoko anchored the Hawai'i offense with 11 kills, hitting .381, along with two service aces, three digs and three blocks. Kristian Titriyski followed with 10 kills, five digs, and four blocks while firing two aces to help fuel the sweep. Justin Todd posted four kills and two blocks, while Ofeck Hazan made the most of his start in place of Trevell Jordan, recording two kills and four blocks.

Setter Tread Rosenthal directed an offense that hit .342 for the match, with 25 assists and two aces, the latter of which moved him past Delano Thomas for sixth all-time in program history. Hawai'i finished with nine total aces, including four in the final set. Serving substitute Kainoa Wade contributed two of those late aces to help seal the victory

UCSD (11-12, 2-6 Big West) was led by Sebastiano Sani, who finished with a match-high 11 kills. Josh Ewert added 10 kills.

The opening set was a back-and-forth affair featuring 11 tie scores and six lead changes. A solo block by Hazan gave UH a 14-12 edge, and the Warriors later used a 4-0 run—highlighted by consecutive kills from Todd—to build a 20-15 lead. Hawai'i hit .393 in the frame to secure the 25-21 win.

UH seized control early in the second set, utilizing back-to-back Rosenthal aces to jump ahead 12-8. The advantage grew to 17-11 after Titriyski's second ace of the night. UH recorded four aces and four blocks in the set to cruise to a 25-18 victory and a 2-0 match lead.

The Tritons refused to fade, scoring the first four points of the third set to take an early lead. However, Hawai'i responded with a mid-set surge, sparked by a pair of service aces from Wade that helped UH retake the lead at 17-16. Sakanoko took over late with five kills to seal the 25-21 win and the match sweep.

The two teams will meet for the series finale on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at LionTree Arena.
