IRVINE, Calif. — The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team will enter its title defense as the second seed in The Hawaiian Islands Presents the 2024 Outrigger Big West Women's Volleyball Championship set for Nov. 27-30 at the Bren Events Center in Irvine, Calif.
As one of the top two seeds, the Rainbow Wahine (19-9, 13-5 Big West) earned a bye into the Nov. 29 semifinal round of the six-team bracket. They will face the winner of the first-round match between UC Davis and host UC Irvine at 6 p.m. Pacific Time (4 p.m. Hawai'i Time).
The championship match is set for Nov. 30 at 5 p.m. PT (3 p.m. HT).
The Rainbow Wahine closed the regular season in a tie with UC Davis (18-9, 13-5) for second place in the conference standings. UH and UC Davis split their season series and the 'Bows claimed the next tiebreaker for the No. 2 seed by virtue of their sweep of regular-season champion Cal Poly. UC Davis lost to Cal Poly on Saturday to split their series.
Cal Poly earned the No. 1 seed while Hawai'i will enter the conference tournament as the No. 2 seed for the second straight year. The 'Bows swept through the inaugural event last year with wins over Cal Poly in the semifinals and host Long Beach State in the title match to earn the Big West's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Long Beach State (18-10, 12-6) is the fourth seed in this year's bracket, followed by UC San Diego (16-13, 10-8) and UC Irvine (16-13, 10-8).
