HONOLULU — Both of the University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team's Senior Night honorees on Saturday claimed Big West Player of the Week awards on Monday.

UH libero Tayli Ikenaga was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season and Kate Lang earned her fifth Setter of the Week award this season and the 16th of her career.

Both seniors were instrumental in the Rainbow Wahine sweeping through their final homestand of the season with victories over two Big West contenders in Long Beach State and UC San Diego.

Ikenaga headlined UH's defensive effort in the weekend sweeps with 35 total digs and an average of 5.83 per set in the final two home matches of her career. The senior came up with 18 digs in UH's 25-15-25-23, 25-21 victory over Long Beach State on Friday. She then had 17 digs on Saturday to help UH sweep UC San Diego 25-16, 25-13, 25-19. She also handled 16 serve receptions without an error and her efforts in the back row helped UH hold the Beach and Tritons to a combined .109 hitting percentage over six sets. Ikenaga jumped up to second in the Big West with 422 total digs and 3.98 per set.

Lang averaged 11.67 assists per set with a total of 70 in her final two matches in SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. She opened the weekend with 34 assists and had 10 digs against Long Beach State in her 13th double-double of the season. She had 36 assists and three kills while directing a UH attack that hit .340 in the sweep of UC San Diego. The 'Bows hit .586 in the second set with 18 kills and one error in their most efficient set of the season. Over the weekend, Lang rose from fifth to third in UH history in career assists with 4,346, passing Cheri Boyer (1988-91) and UH head coach Robyn Ah Mow (1993-96) on the list. Lang leads the conference and ranks 12th in the nation with 1,116 total assists. Her average of 10.53 assists per set also leads the Big West and ranks 26th nationally.

The Rainbow Wahine (18-8, 12-4 Big West) enter the final week of the regular season in the three-team tie for first place in the Big West standings with Cal Poly (19-8, 12-4) and UC Davis (17-8, 12-4). All three teams have secured spots in the six-team Big West Championship set for Nov. 27-30 in Irvine, Calif.
