HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team added height and depth to the middle rotation with the signing of transfer Marnie Ursem to the roster for the 2026 season.
Ursem, a 6-foot-3 middle blocker from Auckland, New Zealand, will join the Rainbow Wahine as a junior after playing at UNC Wilmington for the last two seasons.
Ursem played in 40 matches in her career with UNCW and averaged 1.53 kills and 1.01 blocks per set. She saw action in 14 matches as a freshman in 2024 and hit .313 while averaging 1.35 kills per set. She started all 26 matches last season and led the Seahawks with 99 total blocks, including 34 solo. Her average of 1.08 blocks per set ranked second in the Coastal Athletic Association and she led the team with 30 service aces. She also ranked second on the team with 148 total kills (1.61 per set).
Ursem graduated from Orewa College and helped the Orcas claim the Auckland Championship in 2021. She earned tournament MVP honors in 2021 and made the all-tournament team in 2023. She also played for the Harbour Raiders and helped the team win two division championships.
Ursem is the seventh newcomer, and fifth international player, to sign with the program for the 2026 season as the Rainbow Wahine head into Joshua Walker's first season as head coach.
