HONOLULU – Six members of the Big West regular season champion Hawai'i soccer team earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors Tuesday for their outstanding efforts in the classroom and on the field.
Izzy Ayala,
Eve Bleam,
Amber Gilbert,
Jacey Jicha,
Tatum Porter and
Cate Sheahan each took home the honor, which recognizes student-athletes who hold a GPA of at least 3.50 and contribute significantly to their team on the field.
It's the third consecutive season that UH has had the maximum of six student-athletes earn academic all-district honors while Gilbert, Jicha and Sheahan each claimed the honor for the second straight year.
Izzy Ayala, Sophomore, Midfielder
- Played in 17 matches, making 15 starts.
- Second on the team among field players averaging 80.5 minutes per match.
- Played all 90 minutes in seven matches.
- Assisted on the eventual game-winning goal in a 4-1 win over North Dakota State on Sept. 1.
Eve Bleam, Junior, Defender
- Appeared in 19 matches, making 18 starts on the back line.
- Averaged 68.4 minutes per match, playing all 90 minutes eight times.
- Played 432 of the 450 minutes of UH's school-record tying stretch of five consecutive shutouts from Sept. 26-Oct. 13.
- Delivered first career assist in a Sept. 22 win over Hawai'i Pacific.
Amber Gilbert, Junior, Forward
- Earned academic all-district honors for the second consecutive year.
- A Big West honorable mention all-conference honoree.
- Played in all 20 matches with 17 starts at attacker, drawing double teams and increased defensive attention all season.
- Delivered her lone goal of the regular season in a 1-0 win over Cal State Fullerton on Oct. 6.
Jacey Jicha, Senior, Defender
- The Big West Defensive Player of the Year.
- The first UH player ever to earn Big West Defensive Player of the Year honors.
- Just the third player in school history to earn a conference defensive player of the year award.
- Third-straight year earning all-conference honors, and first time in the first-team.
- Named academic all-district for the second year in a row.
- Started all 20 matches and played 1,700 out of a possible 1,800 minutes during the regular season.
Tatum Porter, Sophomore, Forward
- Tied for second on the team with four goals scored.
- Delivered a pair of game-winning goals, with one coming in the 81st minute of a 1-0 win at CSUN on Oct. 3.
- Other game-winning goal came with seven seconds left in the first half in a 1-0 win over Long Beach State on Oct. 31.
- Appeared in all 21 matches, making three starts.
Cate Sheahan, Junior, Forward
- An honorable mention All-Big West selection.
- Named academic all-district for the second consecutive year.
- Second on the team with 12 points (4 goals, 4 assists).
- One of five players in the Big West with at least four goals and four assists.
- Started all 20 matches and is first among UH's attackers averaging 67.3 minutes per match.
