BeachBows Eliminated From AVCA Championship Contention

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Hawai'i beach volleyball program saw two of its tandems knocked out of championship contention on Day 2 of the AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Pairs Championship Saturday at the John Hunt Park.

After a successful opening day which saw them advance to the round of 32 of the championships, the duos of Alana Embry-Jasmine Wandeler and Sarah Burton-Caprice Lorenzo, each dropped their opening match of the second day.

In the round 32, Burton and Lorenzo started strong by winning the first set 21-18 against the Florida Atlantic's Ashleigh Adams and Marketa Svozilova. But the FAU duo responded with decisive scores of 21-11 and 15-9 in the next two sets to nab the win. Meanwhile, Demi Wagdy and Julia Westby of Big West rival Long Beach State defeated Embry and Wandeler 21-15, 21-10

The UH pairs were relegated to the consolation bracket where they both bounced back with three-set wins. Burton and Lorenzo rallied past Boise State's Ava Anderson and Addison Wolden, 19-21, 22-20, 17-15 while Embry and Wandeler got by Cal's Alexandra Adishian and Amelia Vugrincic, 19-21, 21-12, 15-13.

Both UH pairs will wrap up the tournament on Sunday with the possibility of three more matches. Embry and Wandeler will take on Katie Camp and Maria Ozaeta of Stetson at 8:00 a.m. CST while Burton and Lorenzo will face Gella Andrew and Myriah Massey of Florida State, also at 8 a.m. CST.
