Rainbow Warriors Fall On the Road At Utah State

LOGAN, Utah –  The University of Hawai'i football team stumbled out of the gates and couldn't recover in a 55-10 loss at Utah State Saturday afternoon at Maverik Stadium. The Rainbow Warriors dropped to 4-7 overall and 2-4 in the Mountain West with their second straight loss

Utah State (3-7, 2-3), meanwhile, won its second straight game and continued its mastery over UH with its eighth straight victory in the series. Six of those meetings have been decided by 20 or more points.

The Aggies, one of the top statistical offenses nationally, struck early and often. They scored their first touchdown 93 seconds into the game and amassed close to 200 yards of offense in the first quarter alone. The Aggies consequently jumped out to a 17-0 lead that set the tone for the rest of the game.

The Warriors, conversely, were fruitless in six of their first seven drives of the first half while turning the ball over on three occasions. The Aggies parlayed 14 of their points off those turnovers. UH's lone points of the first half came on a 40-yard field goal late in the second quarter and were down 24-3 at the break.

Any hopes of a UH comeback were extinguished early in the third quarter when Rahsul Faison ripped off a 37-yard touchdown, a run that was set up by a 44-yard punt return. Davis tacked on another 37-yard score on the very next possession.

Faison finished the game with 191 yards on 20 carries. Aggie quarterback Spencer Petras, who did much of the damage in the first half, was 20-of-30 for 255 yards and two touchdown tosses. By game's end, Utah State racked up 580 yards of offense, including 321 on the ground.

Brayden Schager went 11-of-19 for 124 yards and three interceptions for UH before being sidelined early in the second half. True freshman Micah Alejado came in relief and completed 11-of-12 passes for 111 yards and tossed his first career touchdown pass on a 44-yard connection with Dekel Crowdus

The Warriors enjoy a bye next week before hosting New Mexico in the season finale on Saturday, Nov. 30. Nearly two dozen Warriors will be honored following the game as part of Senior Night festivities. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Ching Complex.
