Schuessler Finishes 17th at ICSA Singlehanded Championship

TAMPA, Fla. – Rainbow Wahine sailor Martha Schuessler finished in 17th place at the ICSA Singlehanded Championship this weekend off the coast of Western Florida. The regatta was hosted by the University of South Florida.

The competition was split into two days of sailing with eight races having taken place on Saturday and four on Sunday for a total of 12 races. Facing elite competition, Schuessler concluded the event with a total of 179 points with ninth being her best finish among the 12 races. Harvard's Sophia Montgomery took the regatta and the Janet Lutz Trophy with 49 total points.

Schuessler, who earned a berth by capturing the PCCSC championship last month, was the first Rainbow Wahine to compete in the singlehanded nationals in two decades. Tinja Anderson Mitterling was the last to do it, appearing in back-to-back years in 2004 and '05.

This event signaled the end of the fall campaign for the Rainbow Wahine sailors who will return to action at Keehi Lagoon for the Peter Wenner Rainbow Invite on Jan. 18-19.
