FAIRFAX, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team set a new single-round scoring record on the first day of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, Monday at Meadow Club.
The Rainbow Warriors shot an opening round 12-under 272, breaking the previous school mark of 273, set last season at the Kā'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational on Maui. Junior
James Whitworth opened with a 7-under 64, which is the third lowest round for an individual in program history.
UH shot a second round even par 284 and sits in 12
th place at 12-under 556. Pacific leads the 15-team field at 41-under 527 followed by San Jose State (531) and host California (536). Individually, SJSU teammates Zubair Firdaus and Keshav Mungali share the clubhouse lead at 13-under 129. Whitworth is tied for 22
nd at 6-under 136.
Tyler Ogawa put together rounds of 69 and 70 and is tied for 42
nd at 3-under 139.
Dane Watanabe is 1-under and tied for 54
th followed by
Garrett Takeuchi (142; t-61
st) and
Josh Hayashida (143; t-67
th).
The tournament concludes with the third and final round on Tuesday.
