Rainbow Wahine Place 10th At Stu Nelson Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. — In its first team regatta of the season the Rainbow Wahine finished 10th at the Stu Nelson Invitational hosted by Connecticut College.

UH made the cross-country trip to compete in a field of 18 schools primarily from the East Coast. With the A, B, and C divisions competing in 10 races each, the 'Bows featured seven different sailors at the regatta:Vivian Bønsager and Stella Taherian in the A division, Martha Schuessler and Morgan Carew in the B division, Malia Johnson and Elin Reigstad in the C division, with Sophia Shaeffer appearing in both the B and C divisions.

Division A finished the regatta with 75 points, division B with 91, and division C with 104 points for a total of 270. Yale dominated the field with a regatta-low 79 points, well ahead of runner-up Stanford with 157. Despite finishing far from contention, UH's A division squad of Bønsager and Taherian finished on a high note by taking first in their final two races of the weekend.

Next up for the coed sailing team is the Stoney Burke Intersectional in Richmond, California on Oct. 19-20. The Rainbow Wahine will look to bounce back in Long Beach, Calif. for the PCCSC Fall Championship on Oct. 26-27.
