SALEM, Ore. – Behind a 1-2 finish from
Emilie Kirk Langschwager and
Lucy Milliner, the Hawai'i cross country team turned in a third-place result Saturday at the Charles Bowles Invitational.
The Rainbow Wahine duo held the top two spots for nearly the entire race, with Kirk Langschwager edging ahead for the win down the stretch to post a time of 17:03.5 – the second-fastest 5k time in school history. Milliner held off a charging chase pack coming home to finish in 17:09.8 and move into third all-time in the 5k.
"Really pleased with our efforts this morning," head coach
Tim Boyce said. "We got tremendous times from our top three and our young group behind them excelled and turned in a consistent effort. As we add Zola (O'Donnell) back to the mix and keep getting stronger, future races will be fun."
Sariah Hernandez added a top-10 finish of her own, coming in seventh with a mark of 17:29.1 to add her name to the UH top 10 and move into seventh in school history.
Lucy Becker and
Gemma Warman rounded out the Hawai'i top five with Becker coming in 51st with a time of 18:47.5 and Warman finishing right behind her in 18:48.6 to place 53rd.
A true freshman from England, Milliner has now placed in the top 10 in each of her first three collegiate meets and owns spots in the program all-time top 10 at both distances. Kirk Langschwager took home the second win of her collegiate career and has finished in the top 15 in each of the first three events.
