LONG BEACH, Calif./HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i's women's tennis team split this week to compete at the Beach Tennis Fall Tournament and host the UH 'Anuenue Invitational. In Long Beach, UH's doubles duo of Makeilah Nepomuceno and Hannah Galindo advanced to the Beach Tennis Fall Tournament's doubles quarterfinals after edging out their opponents from Cal Poly on Friday at the Rhodes Tennis Center.

Nepomuceno and Galindo defeated the Mustangs' Eliza Bates and Jessica MacCallum by just a break, 8-6 to win the pro-set and advance to Saturday's quarterfinals where they will take on Cal Poly's Peyton Dunkle and Amy Leather at 6:00 a.m. HT.

In the singles main draw, UH's Peppi Ramstedt dropped a three-set heartbreaker which included two tiebreaker set losses. She fell to Sein Myong of Cal State Fullerton, 7-6 (5), 2-6, 7-6 (5). Mepomuceno fell in her match against UC Santa Barbara's Tyra Richardson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

In singles consolation matches, the Rainbow Wahine won two of four singles matches. UH's Joelle Lanz rolled over UC San Diego's Athena Wardy, 6-3, 6-0 and Emma Forgac defeated UCSB's Lucy Lu by retirement. Galindo won the first set, but fell in a tight super tie-breaker to Kaytlin Taylor from Cal State Fullerton, 5-7, 6-2, 11-9.

In doubles consolation action, UH's Ramstedt and Forgac cruised past UC Irvine's Mikaela Hinton and Haily Huynh, 6-2.

Back at home, there was only one doubles match and two singles matches on the slate for the opening day of the UH 'Anuenue Invitational. UH's doubles team of senior Sheena Masuda and newest freshman Jazlyn Miyamura held off Hawai'i Pacific's Annika Hakovirta and Sayda Hernandez by a break to win 6-4.

In singles, Miyamura breezed past HPU's Lynn Kader, 6-1, 6-2. Masuda Jayanne Palma, while UH's Masuda came back in the third set super tie-breaker to defeat Jayanne Palma, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (7).
