Women's Basketball Ranked 19th in Mid Major Poll

HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team enters the 2024-25 campaign at No. 19 in the Collegeinsider.com Women's Preseason Mid Major Top 25.

The Rainbow Wahine received 194 points in the poll of 31 NCAA Division I coaches released on Tuesday. UH is the lone Big West team in the top 25.

The 'Bows were ranked 22nd in last year's preseason Mid Major poll and closed the regular season just outside the top 25 after capturing the Big West regular-season championship with a 17-3 conference record. UH finished the season at 20-11 overall and return 10 letterwinners. The returnees — including preseason All-Big West selections Daejah Phillips and Lily Wahinekapu — accounted for 87% of UH's scoring last season.

Five UH opponents were among teams also receiving votes in the poll —  Portland, UT Martin, UC Irvine, Eastern Washington and Louisiana Monroe.

Coming off a 69-50 exhibition win at Hawai'i Hilo on Saturday, the Rainbow Wahine head to Maui this weekend for an exhibition with Chaminade set for Saturday, Nov. 2. The 'Bows and Silverswords meet in the first game of a free doubleheader with the men's program at the Kamehameha-Maui campus in Pukalani. The women's game is scheduled for 2 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 5 p.m. The weekend on the Valley Isle will also feature a keiki clinic on Friday, Nov. 1 at Lahainaluna High School from 5-6 p.m. The free clinic is open to keiki from grade 4-6. Space is limited and registration can be completed here

UH opens the regular season with a road trip to the Pacific Northwest and plays at Portland on Nov. 7 and at Portland State on Nov. 9. The 'Bows make their home debut on Nov. 22 against Louisiana Monroe in the Bank of Hawai'i Classic.
