Rainbow Sailors Secure Second Place At Stoney Burke Intersectional

RICHMOND, Calif. – The University of Hawaii Rainbow coed team concluded the weekend with a comfortable second-place finish at the Stoney Burke Intersectional, held Oct. 19 and 20, in Northern California.

A total of 18 races—nine each in the A and B divisions—were completed in this regatta. Hawai'i's coed team featured Erik Anderson, Amanda Turner, Vivian Bønsager, and Kees Horn in the A Division, while Everett McAvoy and Sophia Shaeffer competed in the B Division. The pair of Anderson and Turner achieved first-place finishes in three of nine races with the duos of Bønsager and Horn, and McAvoy and Shaeffer both winning a race each.

The Rainbow Sailors accrued a total of 72 points through 18 total races, finishing eight points ahead of third-place UC Santa Barbara. USC won the event with a regatta-low 55 points. The performance marked the school's third top-two finish in as many tries at the Stoney Burke, continuing an impressive stretch of success at the event.

Next up, the coed team aims to carry their momentum to Redwood City, Calif., competing in the Fall Top-Nine Invite on Oct. 26-27.
