Soccer Extends Unbeaten Steak with Draw at UCI

IRVINE, Calif. – The Hawai'i soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to eight matches and remained atop the Big West standings, closing out the road trip with a 0-0 draw at UC Irvine Sunday.

Despite having their seven-match win streak snapped, the Rainbow Wahine (9-6-1, 5-0-1 Big West) set a program record by running their unbeaten streak to eight matches. UH ran its conference points total to 16, two ahead of second-place UC Santa Barbara with four matches to play in the regular season.

The 'Bows also extended their shutout streak to five straight matches, tying the program-record for most consecutive shutouts (2004, 2007). Hawai'i has now also gone 464 consecutive minutes without surrendering a goal, dating back to the second half of a Sept. 22 win over Hawai'i Pacific.

Goalkeeper Kennedy Justin, already the owner of the longest run of shutouts in school history, recorded her fifth consecutive clean sheet with three saves on seven shots faced. The reigning Big West Defensive Player of the Week is tied for second in the conference with five shutouts on the season.

Neither side was able to get much going offensively in the first half. The 'Bows did create a pair of early chances, first in the sixth minute on a Brynn Mitchell attempt that was saved about 15 yards from the front of the net by UCI keeper Ashley Naylor, and again on a Cate Sheahan header that just missed left in the eighth minute.

UH out-shot the Anteaters, 9-4, in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net. Mia Foster nearly gave Hawai'i the lead in the 57th minute with a long-range shot that hit the left post, while Zoe Park also found woodwork from long range when her long attempt hit the crossbar in the 88th minute.

The Rainbow Wahine return home to host UC Riverside on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Waipi'o Soccer Stadium.
