Swim & Dive Secure Multiple Wins to Closeout USC Invitational

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The University of Hawai'i men's and women's swim teams wrapped up the weekend highlighted by multiple wins and top-five finishes at the USC Invitational at teh Uyetengsu Aquatics Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

The Rainbow Warriors built on yesterday's strong start by securing victories in both team relays and individual events. The 'Bows won the 400 freestyle relay event with the squad of Victor Dagenais, Jordan Meacham, Milan Bukovics and Karol Ostrowski posting a time of 2:56.26. The same squad earned a third place finish in the 200 medley relay with a mark of 1:29.73.

The men finished the afternoon with three individual top-three finishes. Ostrowski won the 100 freestyle clocking in at 43.45 to secure the Rainbow Warrior's first indivicual win this season. Aleks Tomaszewski finished second in the 200 butterfly recording a time of 1:49.51, followed in third place by Zane Johnson who posted a mark of 1:50.58.

Freshman Andrew Simmons competed in four events for the 'Bows including the 200 medley relay, 200 backstroke, 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle relay.

Two Rainbow Wahine placed second in the 200 medley relay event. The team of Alexa Ozment, Mandolin Nguyen, Kaya Takashige and Alexia Kovaluk placed second with a time of 1:42.39.

Ella Varga continued her stellar debut weekend with the 'Bows earning a runner-up finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:57.32. Varga's time in the 200 backstroke is the seventh fastest in Rainbow Wahine history.

The women continued to place high this weekend with Nguyen coming in second in the 200 breaststroke with a mark of 2:15.35, followed by Belyakov in third place recording a time of 2:15.86. Junior Kailee Chow earned a third place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:02.64, and Arianna Sakellaris placed third in the 1650 freestyle recording a time of 17:05.96.

"We finished the USC invite with our best session of the year thus far." exclained head coach Steve Allnutt. "A really big highlight came from our Warrior relay team willing themselves to win the 400 freestyle relay in the final event of the weekend. This last session with the 200's of stroke, the 1650 and the 100 freestyle plus the 400 freestyle relay will really prepare us for the last day of the Big West Championships."

UH returns home for a dual meet with Grand Canyon on Friday through Saturday (Oct. 25-26) at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. Competition begins at 6:00 p.m. HT on Friday and 9:30 a.m. HT on Saturday.
