Tread Rosenthal was selected as the Big West's Freshman of the Week after making his collegiate debut last week in a two-match series split of No. 10 Loyola Chicago.
Rosenthal was the first UH true freshman to start a season at setter since Brian Beckwith in 2004. The Manhattan Beach, Calif., native recorded 90 total assists (11.25 per set) in the series to go along with four kills, six aces, 13 digs, and three blocks.
In his collegiate debut on Wednesday, the 17-year-old finished with 32 assists, two aces, five digs, and two blocks in a straight-set win over the Ramblers. Two nights later, he tallied 58 assists, four aces, and eight digs in a five-set loss.
As a team, the Rainbow Warriors hit .374 in the series, including a blistering .469 on Friday.
Rosenthal, a prized recruit from Mira Costa High School in California, is the starting setter on the U.S. Junior National Team. He along with the Rainbow Warriors will be back in action this week for a two-match series against Emmanuel, Jan. 10 & 12 at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
