IRVINE, Calif. – For the second time in his young career, University of Hawai'i setter
Tread Rosenthal was named the Big West's Freshman of the Week after leading the Rainbow Warriors to three road victories last week.
Rosenthal averaged 9.82 assists per set in a pair of wins over Purdue Fort Wayne and a victory over Ball State. The Manhattan Beach, Calif., native recorded 108 total assists along with four aces, 20 digs (1.82 d/s) and nine blocks (0.90 b/s).
He led the Rainbow Warriors (6-1) to a team hitting percentage of .396 in the series, including .487 in the rematch with PFW. UH hit .355 or better in all three matches and on the year, the team boasts a .371 clip which ranks third nationally,
Through the first month of the season, Rosenthal ranks No. 9 nationally in assists per set (9.96) and leads the team with 13 service aces. Earlier this year, he became the first UH true freshman to start the season at setter since 2004.
Rosenthal and the Rainbow Warriors begin a six-week, 11-match homestand beginning with Tusculum, Feb. 2 & 4 at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
