HONOLULU – Hawai'i baseball head coach
Rich Hill announced Thursday the addition of 35-year collegiate coaching veteran Lindsay Meggs to the staff as an assistant coach.
A head coach for the last 29 years of his collegiate coaching career, Meggs brings 967 career head coaching wins to the program. He was last the head coach at Washington for 13 seasons from 2010-22, leading the Huskies to a College World Series appearance in 2018.
"To bring on a coach of Lindsay Meggs' caliber to our storied program here at the University of Hawai'i is amazing," said Hill. "The stars aligned, and it was a perfect situation for coach to be able to come and impact the lives and the development of our student-athletes. He has coached around the best in the game and is widely recognized as one of the top in-game coaches and developmental specialists in college baseball."
Under Meggs, Washington became a constant presence near the top of the Pac-12 standings year in-year out. He led the Huskies to a pair of conference runner-up finishes and NCAA Regional appearances in 2014 and 2016 before leading them on their Omaha run in 2018.
Meggs led the 2018 Washington squad to the program's first-ever College World Series appearance, catching fire down the stretch and in the postseason to make it to Omaha. The Huskies won the Conway Regional to secure their first Super Regional appearance in school history, where they won two of three games against Cal State Fullerton to advance.
Washington had 43 players selected in the MLB Draft during Meggs' tenure, with 14 of those going in the top 10 rounds. He also coached five All-Americans and was named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year in 2014.
Prior to arriving at Washington, Meggs coached for three seasons at Indiana State, where he earned Missouri Valley Coach of the Year honors in his final season with the Sycamores in 2009.
Meggs took the Indiana State job after 13 seasons as the skipper at Chico State, where he led the Wildcats to a pair of NCAA Division II national titles in 1997 and 1999. He ended his tenure there with a record of 538-228-4, seven Division II College World Series appearances and eight conference titles.
A native of the Bay Area in California, Meggs was a four-year starter at UCLA from 1981-84 and was selected in the 15th round of the 1984 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals.
The Hawai'i coaching staff is now made up entirely of current or former Division I head coaches. In addition to Hill and Meggs, pitching coach Keith Zuniga (New Mexico State, 2023) and assistant coach
Dave Nakama (San Jose State, 2013-16) have both spent time leading Division I programs. Nakama also worked as an assistant coach (2010-12) and later director of operations (2018-21) under Meggs at Washington.
