HONOLULU – The Hawai'i men's and women's swimming and diving teams each kicked off the new year with dominant dual meet victories over Fairfield Tuesday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
UH won all 30 of the night's events, starting with a solid day on the diving boards. The Rainbow Warriors took the top two spots in the 1-meter competition with
Mackaby Pennington posting a score of 321.90 and
Juan Gonzalez finishing second with a 314.25. The Rainbow Wahine claimed the top four spots in the 3-meter competition, led by
Isabella Plantz with a mark of 264.67.
Gonzalez took home the men's 3-meter competition with a score of 348.07 while Pennington finished second with a season-best mark of 340.95.
Isabelle Lombardi led a dominant effort in 1-meter diving for the Rainbow Wahine, posting a season-best score of 286.87 followed by freshman
Ruby Pickron with a career-best 261.90.
In the pool, the Hawai'i women took the top two spots in eight of the 13 events while locking down the top three spots in five different events. The Rainbow Warriors were equally as dominant, holding down the top two spots in nine of the 13 swimming events including four events in which they turned in at least a 1-2-3 finish.
The Rainbow Warriors and Rainbow Wahine will return to action Friday at 5 p.m. with a swimming only dual meet vs. Ohio State. The Buckeye women are currently ranked No. 5 in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association poll while the Ohio State men sit at No. 14. Following the meet, Hawai'i will hold its Senior Night ceremony for both the men's and women's squads.
