The Rainbow Wahine had a week off after opening their season with the grueling five-day five-team Weinman Foundation Invitational. The 'Bows faced stiff competition from No 9 NC State, No. 19 California and BYU and Florida State who both finished last season ranked in the ITA Poll. Leading Hawai'i was junior
Ana Vilcek who went 2-2 in singles--including an upset win over 19th-ranked Sophie Abrams of NC State (6-2, 6-3). Also posting a 2-2 singles record was freshman
Nelly Knezkova who knocked off NC State's 116th-ranked Maddy Zampardo in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles, the UH duo of the newest Rainbow Wahine Hannah Galindo and
Anna Kern racked up three wins right off the bat over BYU, Cal, and NC State. The pair was close to earning a fourth win on the final day, pushing Florida State's Maelie Monfils/ Anna Arkadianou all the way until the end before falling by a break, 7-5.
Both Memphis and Sacramento State will be opening their season against UH, while the Huskies are 1-0 after sweeping Eastern Washington least week.
