HONOLULU - The University of Hawaii's sailing team kicks off his 2024 spring season with the annual Peter Wenner Rainbow Invite January 20-21 at Ke'ehi Lagoon.
The coed team had a relatively light fall season as the Rainbow sailors competed in just two regattas. However, they made it count, capturing the Stoney Brook Intersectional and finishing runner-up at the PCCSC Fall Championship. The Rainbow Wahine, meanwhile, also return to the water for the first time since late October when they finished second in the PCCSC Women's Championship. The Rainbow Invite will be the program's lone home regatta this year.
UH looks to keep its win streak alive in the Rainbow Invite. Last year marked the seventh straight year the Rainbows claimed their home regatta. They did so in dominating fashion as the 'Bows had four of top six finishers in the fleet race, led by the Rainbow squad that claimed first by nearly 30 points.
The 'Bows will defend its regatta crown this year against nearly a dozen schools from across the country. The diverse field includes teams from Arizona, California, New Jersey, Virginia as well as Canada. Host Hawai'i will field four squads - two coed and two women's - to round out a pool of 18 competing teams.
