Rainbow Wahine Face Long Beach State to Open Homestand

HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team returns to SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center to face Long Beach State on Thursday, Jan. 18, in the opener of a two-game Big West homestand. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
 
The Rainbow Wahine (7-7, 4-1 Big West) split their road trip last week — winning at UC Irvine before falling to UC Riverside — and enter Thursday's play a half-game behind conference leader UC Santa Barbara. Long Beach State (6-10, 1-5) visits Mānoa looking to break out of a four-game losing streak.

Promotions • It's rivalry Thursday as Hawai'i hosts Long Beach State. Fans are encouraged to wear their favorite UH gear.
• Hawai'i Pacific Health will sponsor Thursday's game and will give out 150 mini sunscreen bottles at the marketing table located just inside of Gate A. 
• HPH will also provide 150 clear drawstring bags and cooling towels for fans entering the arena.
• One lucky fan will walk away with a massage certificate for being in the right place at the right time as the night's lucky seat winner. 
• Singing the national anthem and Hawai'i Pono'i will be 15-year-old Monica Velasco, a budding singer and musical actress and a soprano with the Waipahu High School Chamber Choir.

TIPOFF

• Thursday's game will be the 48th meeting between Hawai'i and Long Beach State. UH leads the series 25-22 overall and 14-10 in games played in Honolulu.
• UH is off to a 4-1 start in Big West play for the second time in the last three seasons and for the third time in head coach Laura Beeman's tenure.
• Long Beach State swept the regular-season series last year, winning 62-48 in Long Beach and 48-47 in Honolulu. The teams met again in the semifinals of the Big West Championship in Henderson, Nev., with the Rainbow Wahine advancing with a 67-62 victory on their way to the tournament title.
• The Rainbow Wahine rank second in the Big West in overall scoring defense at 56.1 points per game allowed while Long Beach State is second in the conference in scoring offense at 66.8 ppg.
• UH has allowed an average of 49 points per game in its first five Big West contests.
• LBSU leads the conference with 40.2 rebounds per game, including a league-high 12.6 offensive rebounds per game.
• UH forward Imani Perez leads the Rainbow Wahine with 9.3 points per game and five Rainbow Wahine players average at least 7.5 ppg.
• UH guard Lily Wahinekapu has scored in double figures in each of the last four games and is averaging a team-high 10.8 ppg in Big West games.
• The Rainbow Wahine will close the homestand on Saturday, Jan. 20 against UC San Diego.
