SPOKANE, Wash. – The Hawai'i women's track & field team opened the 2024 indoor season with a day filled with program top 10 performances and one school record at the Spokane Sports Showcase Friday.
Alyssa Mae Antolin got her senior season off to a record start, adding another school record to her résumé in the 300 meters. The Kīhei, Maui native ran a 39.50 to finish fifth in the event to post the lowest time on record at that distance by a UH athlete.
Hallee Mohr got the day started for the Rainbow Wahine with a fifth-place finish and the eighth-best mark in school history in the weight throw. The senior moved into the UH top 10 with a toss of 16.13m (52-11.0) on her third throw to become just the eighth in school history to surpass 16.0m in the event.
Tara Wyllie turned in the first of her two new UH top 10 marks of the day in the 60m hurdles, moving into sixth in school history with a time of 8.77 seconds. The sophomore moved into fifth all-time in the triple jump later in the day, finishing third in the event with a mark of 12.00m on her fifth attempt. Wyllie is only the fifth Rainbow Wahine to have a jump of at least 12.00m in the indoor triple jump.
Sophomore
Rose Forshaw added another individual top 10 performances with a toss of 13.74m in the shot put to move into eighth all-time at UH. Forshaw delivered the career-best throw on her third attempt and also had two other tosses of over 13.00m in the series.
A pair of freshmen turned in strong collegiate debuts in
Isabella Kneeshaw and
Valo Sopoaga. Kneeshaw advanced to the prelims of the 60m and ran the fourth-fastest time in program history with a 7.70 to finish 14th before running a 39.93 in the 300m to come in seventh. Sopoaga turned in a top-10 finish in her first collegiate shot put event with a toss of 12.27m on her second attempt.
The Rainbow Wahine closed out action in the Spokane Sports Showcase with the seventh-best time in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:53.64.
Sammie Gordon,
Alyssa Mae Antolin,
Anna Marx and
Amy Warrington combined to finish sixth in the event, putting both Antolin and Warrington on the UH top 10 list in the event with their fourth different relay squad.
The Hawai'i distance medley relay team capped off day one of action with another top 10 mark. The relay squad of
Emilie Kirk Langschwager, Kneeshaw,
Carlin McFadden and
Zola O'Donnell ran a 12:10.81 to turn in the eighth-fastest time in program history and the fastest since 2019.
Gordon provided another individual highlight in the high jump, matching a personal best with a mark of 1.66m (5-5.25) to finish fifth in the event.
Hawai'i wraps up action in Spokane on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. HT.
