SEATTLE -- The University of Hawaii's Sailing opened their 2023-24 season at the PCCSC Men's and Women's Singlehanded Championships this weekend in the Northwest.
After finishing his freshman season with PCCSC Rookie of the Year honors,
Erik Anderson started the season strong with a second-place finish. Anderson recorded 20 points while competing in nine races. After finishing in fourth in the first race, Anderson was solid the rest of the way, placing in the top three in the remaining eight races while taking the top spot in three of them. Hawaii's
Trey Summers took seventh, tallying 60 points. HIs best finish among the nine races was fourth. Stanford's Jack Baldwin took the regatta by winning five of nine races and finishing with a total of 16 points.
Mercy Tangredi placed third on the women's side, finishing with a total of 30 points. Tangredi placed in the top three in more than half of the nine races. True freshman
Martha Schuessler placed fifth with 34 points in her debut as a Rainbow Wahine. A pair of Washington sailors had the top two finishes in their home waters with Sammy Farkas taking the overall title with 15 points.
Next up for the coed team will be the Stoney Burke Intersectional, Oct. 7-8, in San Francisco, The women will head to the East Coast on that same weekend, competing in the ICSA Women's Intersectional in New London, Conn.
