• UH forward Amber Gilbert raced out to a fast start to her sophomore season with three goals in two matches in the OUTRIGGER Soccer Kickoff. The sophomore scored UH's first goal of the 2023 season in the 84th minute of the season-opener against Utah Valley in the 1-1 draw. The sophomore tracked down a lead pass from Kelci Sumida, raced past the Wolverines back line and drilled a shot into the lower right corner of the net. Goalkeeper Sophie Augustin withstood a barrage from the Wolverines in the final minute to preserve the draw against the defending Western Athletic Conference regular-season champions. Gilbert added two more goals in the tournament finale against Gonzaga to raise her career total to seven in 17 matches.
• The Rainbow Wahine posted the program's highest goal total since 2018 in a 7-5 loss to Gonzaga in the tournament finale on Sunday. The Bulldogs claimed the tournament title with a 2-0-0 mark, followed by Utah Valley (1-0-1), Hawai'i (0-1-1) and Houston Christian (0-2-0).
• The opening weekend included breakthroughs for junior midfielder Mia Foster and sophomore forward Cate Sheahan. Foster scored the first two goals of her UH career in the final 10 minutes of the match with Gonzaga, the first on a long-range strike and the second on a penalty kick. Sheahan also scored her first career goal on a header in the 75th minute off of Fabiola Zamora's first career assist.
• Sacramento State's roster includes six players from Hawaii. UH's Nicole Ando, Amber Gilbert and Jacey Jicha and Sacramento State's Ali Fuamatu-Ma'afala and Shaunee Egloria were teammates at Mililani High School.
