HONOLULU – Following his heroics on the final weekend of the season, Hawai'i second baseman
Stone Miyao earned Big West Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career.
Miyao delivered a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning of Saturday's season finale to clinch a sweep of UC Santa Barbara with a 13-11 win. He finished the weekend 6-for-12 with five runs scored, two homers and four RBIs.
The junior came into the weekend with no home runs on the year, but showed off some of his power with a solo homer in the sixth inning of Friday night's win to give UH a 5-3 lead. He then followed it up with a 3-for-4 day on Saturday, including the first walk-off homer by a Hawai'i player since Feb. 7, 2020 (Dustin Demeter).
The Hilo, Hawai'i native ended the season on a tear, batting .413 (26-for-63) over the final 18 games of the season while hitting safely in the final 10 games of the year. Miyao also led the team in batting average during Big West play, finishing the year hitting .356 in league games with two homers, 19 RBIs and a .459 on-base percentage.
