Mitchell Rejoins Rainbow Wahine Basketball Staff

HONOLULU -- University of Hawai'i women's basketball head coach Laura Beeman announced that Khalilah Mitchell has rejoined the team's coaching staff after a one-year hiatus. Mitchell served as an assistant coach on Beeman's staff for four seasons before assuming the same role at San Jose State this past season.

"We are ecstatic that Khalilah is returning to our program,"  Beeman said. "Not only does she bring a wealth of player development, basketball knowledge and passion for our players, more importantly she brings high character. Her ability to connect with players on and off the court is another strength that will continue to grow our program in a positive direction. Rainbow Wahine fans please help us welcome Coach Mitchell back to our 'ohana."

"I'm beyond honored to rejoin the back-to-back Big West champs," Mitchell said. "I'm eager to learn and I am grateful for the opportunity to work for Coach Beeman again. She is an amazing leader and an even better person. Hawai'i is home."

As an assistant coach with UH, Mitchell helped lead the 'Bows to the Big West Conference Tournament semifinals or championship game every season after her arrival in the spring of 2018. In her last stint at UH in 2021-22, the Rainbow Wahine captured the Big West regular-season and tournament titles in the same season for the first time in program history.

Prior to UH and San Jose State, Mitchell was on the coaching staff for Central Florida for five seasons during which time the Knights notched two Conference USA championships. Mitchell played collegiately at LSU from 2004-2008 and was part of five consecutive NCAA Final Four teams and three Southeastern Conference championships during her playing career.
