Rainbow Wahine Sailors In 14th After Day One Of Nationals

KINGS POINT, N.Y.  – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine sailing team completed its first day of competition at the 2023 ICSA Women's National Championship in 14th place in the Eastern Semifinals.

A total of 36 schools, divided into two 18-team fleets, competed in their designated Eastern and Western semifinal pools. Contending with spotty winds throughout the afternoon, the race committee was able to get off six races in the A and B divisions for 12 total.

The Rainbow Wahine aim for a top-nine semifinal finish in order to advance to the two-day finals beginning on Thursday. UH has a hill to climb in that regard after the first day of sailing.  The Rainbow Wahine have 151 points and are currently 57 points from the ninth spot.

Sailing for the Rainbows were Mercy Tangredi and Sophia Shaeffer in the A Division while Morgan Carew and Quinn Gladstone-Lamas competed in the B division.  The A team finished with 72 points after one day of sailing, placing 15th place in its division. The B team, meanwhile,  tallied 79 points, and stand in a tie for 13th in its division.

Fans can follow Wednesday's action via ICSA live scoring or the ICSA YouTube page.
