Men’s Golf To Make Annual Trip To Western Intercollegiate

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team will make its 13th consecutive appearance in the Western Intercollegiate, presented by Topgolf. The three-day tournament runs Monday, April 10 through Wednesday, April 12 at the Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif.
 
The Golf Channel will once again provide three hours of live coverage per day of the tournament, airing 4:00-7:00 p.m. PT (1:00-4:00 p.m. HT) on Monday and Tuesday and 1:00-4:00 p.m. PT (10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. HT) on Wednesday.
 
Each year, the Western is considered one of the nation's top collegiate golf tournaments and this year is no different with 12 of the 14 participating teams ranked in the Top 100 nationally. The highest ranked teams are No. 8 Stanford and No. 9 Pepperdine while Stanford's Michael Thorbjornsen is the highest ranked individual at No. 3.
 
This year's field includes Arizona (#17), Brigham Young (#43), California (#50), Colorado State (#23), Hawai'i, Oregon (#22), Pepperdine (#9), San Diego State (#27), San Jose State (#91), Stanford (#8), UC Irvine, UNLV (#97), USC (#61), and Washington (#32).
 
Participants will play a total of 54 holes, 18 on each day, at the par-70, 6,615 yard course with tee times beginning at 8:46 a.m. PT on Monday and Tuesday and 8:00 a.m. PT on Wednesday. The format is play-six, score-five.
 
In its 76th year, the Western is the longest running college golf tournament west of the Mississippi. UH's contingent this year includes Blaze Akana, Atsuya Oishi, Zach Sagayaga, Tyler Ogawa, Remington Hirano, and Josh Hayashida. Oishi, Sagayaga, and Ogawa competed in last year's event, which the 'Bows finished in 14th place. Ogawa was UH's top finisher, tying for 51st place at 227. Oishi tied for 72nd place (231) while Sagayaga tied for 85th (240)
 
Pasatiempo is an award-winning course known for its masterful Alister MacKenzie design. The Western features a rich history with a former champion lists that includes Johnny Miller, Peter Jacobsen, Mark O'Meara, Duffy Waldorf, Bobby Clampett, Patrick Rodgers, Mark Lyle, Ken Venturi, and Scottie Scheffler.
 
Following the Western Intercollegiate, the Rainbow Warriors will compete once more before the Big West Conference Championships at the PING Cougar Classic, April 21-22 in Provo, Utah. The Big West Championship runs April 30-May 2 in La Quinta, Calif.
