Rainbow Sailors Finish Third At PCCSC Fleet Race Championship

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team placed third at the PCCSC Fleet Race Championship held April 22-23 at Keehi Lagoon.

Stanford claimed the regatta and UC Santa Barbara finished runner-up to earn the conference's two automatic berths to next month's ICSCA Nationals in New York. UH meanwhile will pin its hopes on a possible at-large bid. The selection show will occur on May 2.

Sunny skies and a solid breeze greeted the 14 schools competing in the regatta. A total of 28 races -  14 in each division were completed over two days. Stanford finished with a low of 51 points. UCSB totaled 87 while UH had 100. The Rainbows  entered Sunday's action in second place, up nine points over UCSB. But the Gauchos overtook UH with a strong finish in the regatta's final 10 races to earn the conference's second automatic berth to nationals.

Owen Lahr and Erik Anderson skippered in the A Division with crew Everett McAvoy and Frances Tarpey-Schwed. Bastien Rasse served as skipper in the B division with Chloe Long and Kelsie Grant as crew.
