Rainbow Wahine Sailors Finish Second At PCCCs; Earn Nationals Berth

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine sailing team finished second in both the team and fleet racing portions of PCCSC Women's Championship held this weekend off the shores of Santa Barbara. With a top-two finish in the fleet racing, UH earned a berth in the 2023 ICSA Women's Nationals to be held in New York nexty month.

Stanford ran away with the regatta title in both the team and fleet racing. On Friday, Stanford dominated the competition going a perfect 12-0 in head-to-head racing. UH was second-best with an 8-4 mark on the day. The Cardinal claimed the lone automatic berth to the ICSA Team Race Nationals

On the weekend, Stanford claimed the fleet race with a low of 53 points and led from wire-to-wire in a field of eight schools. The Rainbow Wahine were a distant second at 158 points but were able to claim the conference's second automatic berth to nationals. A total of 28 races – 14 in each the A and B divisions – were completed over the weekend.

Vivian Bonsager skippered the A division with crew Sophia Shaeffer and Frances Tarpey-Schwed for 71 points while skippers Mercy Tangredi and Morgan Carew and crew Taylor Ledgerwood and Quinn Gladstone-Lamas competed in the B division finishing with 87 points.

UH will conclude their season in familiar territory in the ICSA Women's Fleet Race Championship, May 25-28, in Nassau County, N.Y.
