BeachBows Rally Past Arizona and Georgia State

HONOLULU  — Playing its first home matches in nearly a month, the No. 8 University of Hawai'i beach volleyball team rallied for a pair of victories Saturday at the Clarence T.C. Ching Complex. The Rainbow Wahine defeated No. 20 Arizona and No. 14 Georgia State by identical 3-2 scores to improve their record to 24-6 on the season.

In both dual matches, UH fell behind 2-0, only to come back at the top three flights of the order to secure the wins. The 'Bows have now played eight straight ranked opponents, winning four of the last five matchups.

In the first match of the day, UH fell in an early hole. The 'Bows dropped both the No. 4 and 5 flights to fall behind 2-0 against the Wildcats (18-8). But UH roared back with wins at the No. 2 and 3 flights.  Kylin Loker and Riley Wagoner took care of Hope Shannon and Abby Russell in straight sets, while Ilihia Ilihia Huddleston and Jaime Santer got past Grace Cook and Alana Rennie in three sets. WIth the dual tied 2-2 it came down to the top of the order. Like the've done numerous times already this season, the pair of Kaylee Glagau and Brooke Van Sickle sealed the deal. The duo dropped the first set versus Sarah Blacker and Alex Parkhurst but took the second set 21-19 before a resounding 15-6 win in the third set to clinch the dual for the 'Bows.

In the second match of the day UH took on Georgia State (16-14) for the second time in two weeks. UH defeated the Panthers 4-1 in the East Meets West Invitational in California on March 31 during the first-ever meeting between the squads. UH won again, but took a much harder road this time around. Like the first match of the day, UH fell behind 2-0 after the first falling at Flights 4 and 5. But once again the top three courts powered their way to victory. Glagau and Van Sickle closed out the comeback by defeating Angel and Bella Ferary 21-16, 19-21, 15-10. The tandem improved to a blazing 25-2 this season. Meanwhile Huddleston and Santer improved to 17-2 after winning both of their matches on Saturday.

Georgia State defeated Arizona, 4-1, in the opening match of the day.

The teams will return to the court on Sunday for another set of round-robin action. UH and Georgia State will kick things off at noon while Georgia State and Arizona will square off at 2:30 p.m. Tthe Rainbow Wahine will return to the court at 6:30 p.m. for a televised match against Arizona. Six players will be honored following the match as part of Senior Night festivities.
